Aletsch Glacier, a victim of global warming: 2005

The Aletsch Glacier, one of Switzerland's most impressive landmarks, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001. With a length of 23 km, it is the longest stream of ice in the Alps.

Like glaciers all over the world the Aletsch Glacier is retreating due to global warming, and fast. Over the last 150 years the glacier has already retreated by about three kilometres!
